I was fortunate and blessed to have had the opportunity to accompany my friend, Brian Shaub,on his quest to complete his Sheep Grand Slam. We hunted with Grant Rach, Owner/Outfitter, with Summit Bighorns for Brian’s Rocky Mountain Bighorn Ram in Alberta, Canada. This experience exceeded my expectations on every way possible.
From the initial planning to the final day in the field, Grant’s operation was professional, organized, responsive, and run with a clear respect for the clients, land and animals. The guides and horse wranglers were knowledgeable, hardworking, and genuinely committed to giving us the best possible opportunity for success. The horses were well mannered and highly trained for this rugged county. Grant’s understanding of the terrain and game behavior was impressive, and his patience and attention to detail made a real difference throughout the hunt.
We were able to hunt a vast and diverse area utilizing both backpack spike camps and well-appointed wall tents. The camps were strategically placed to enable us to quickly access key glassing locations and crystal clear streams for water. The meals and portable snacks were nutritious and delicious. I found the communication to be clear and honest every step of the way. Most importantly, the hunt was conducted ethically and safely, which I greatly appreciated. Brain was able to fulfill his 24-year quest for his Grand Slam with a beautiful Rocky Mountain Bighorn Ram.
I confidently recommend Grant and his team at Summit Bighorns to anyone looking for a first-class big game hunting experience. I hope to hunt again with them in the future.
Thank you for including me in this adventure Brian, Grant and Brayden!

I hunted the last hunt of the season with Grant at Summit Bighorns in Alberta in 2025. I was impressed from the start with the communication prior to the hunt. He even made accommodations for me to bring my buddy Mike along to experience a sheep hunt. Upon arrival, there were no surprises and after meeting the other guides and wranglers I knew I was in for a great experience. It was a horseback hunt which adds another level of difficulty and excitement to the adventure. The horse stock and equipment were top notch. We hunted from four different camp, ranging from pup tents to wall tents, before locating a legal ram. By the time I shot my ram on day nine, all of the other hunters in camp had filled out and Grant even invited an earlier hunter back for the last few days of the season and he was successful. They really did everything possible to make each hunter got their ram. All totaled, I believe that they went 7 for 10 with six guys (including myself) completing their slam. That’s pretty incredible!
A huge thank you to Grant and Brayden (our wrangler) and my buddy Mike Sokol for his encouragement both during the hunt and training prior to the hunt. It was truly a hunt that I will never forget!

I had the pleasure of hunting bighorn with Grant and his crew at Summitt Bighorns in his inaugural 2025 season. After researching several options, I spoke with Grant in person at Reno, and my decision was made. I would book with him and head to Alberta come fall. Regardless of the outcome, I knew I was going to have a memorable trip. Every detail was taken care of, and communication was concise. He knew the country, had a defined plan, and set realistic expectations well in advance. From the horses, meals, camps, pre-scouting, camaraderie and guiding, I could not have asked for anything more. The blessing of harvesting a ram was a bonus. I would be happy to discuss my experience with anyone contemplating a bighorn hunt, and would gladly do it all again with Grant if ever given the opportunity.
Remember to always enjoy the journey.
